Also known as the Holy Herb, hyssop is a 2 foot tall shrub found in the Mediterranean that boasts bright purple flowers from green-needled stems. Its use dates back centuries--in fact, the name for this plant comes from Hippocrates, who derived the name from the Hebrew word "ezob." It has been used in purifying rituals and traditional religious practices spanning the globe. In the 10th century, hyssop was added to liquers by Benedictine monks as a flavoring!
